The Brazillian authorities have long battled the drug runners in the nation’s slums – the notorious favellas have been a serious social issue since they were spawned by waves of rural-urban migration. The issue has become increasingly prevalent as Rio is to host both the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Unsurprisingly, the government has been forced to act. Here are a few shots from the recent raid on the city’s largest favella, Rocinha.
